The Asia-Pacific Research Centre (APRC), founded in 1997, is a research wing of the GSIS. The APRC researches on the major Asia-Pacific and Eurasian countries. The APRC aims at promoting and supporting research activities that are theory-generating and policy relevant as well as those that can help educate competent international experts in the fields of international trade and finance, security and development cooperation, international organizations and law, and area studies.

It is well engaged in various research activities, such as hosting a series of academic conferences, conducting government- and business-funded research projects, and publishing scholarly journals. The Centre also offers various research opportunities for GSIS students by holding a quarterly colloquium on pertinent issues of the Asia-Pacific region, and conducting academic exchanges with foreign institutions.

The APRC was designated in December, 1999 by the Government as a research institute for the Priority Institute Programme. Also in December, 2007, it acquired the status of an Institute for Eurasian Research from the Humanities Korea Project, reaffirming its status as the best research institute in Korea.
