U.S. Studies is an interdisciplinary program which studies the United States from a multilateral perspective including its politics, economy, society, and culture. Through systematic and active methods, the major focuses on the objective and balanced research and education about the United States.
While the English Language and Literature department’s subject of research is the English language and literature, U.S. studies focuses on studying the region of America while using English skills as a tool. In other words, the major does not study English itself but rather aims to train students to be fluent in English and use it to gain professional knowledge on American politics, economics, economics, society, and culture and grow into specialists capable of coping with the international society’s changes.
Despite having close relationships with the United States in various areas, Korea’s information on the country until recently has been indirect and partial, with systematic research on the U.S. being limited. Thus the U.S. Studies major’s objectives are to conduct studies and educate objectively and in a balanced manner through systematic and active methods. Graduates who receive such education will be able to work in the United States and other countries and serve various roles in related fields.
